In our 34th year of existence, River Parish Community Theatre (RPCT) began as St. James Community Theatre (SJCT) on June 22, 1987. For years SJCT performed many outstanding shows for the River Parish community. After 2008 SJCT ceased performing summer musicals but continued with a bi-annual tradition of The Living Christmas Tree.

In 2015 SJCT resurrected summer musicals with a performance of The Addams Family with great success. SJCT followed up in 2016 with a stellar run of Shrek: The Musical. It was after this show the organization determined that it was drawing talent and audiences from throughout the River Parish area. The theatre decided to rebrand and do business as River Parish Community Theatre to more accurately reflect its reach. RPCT performed its first show under its new name in 2017 and chose Annie, which resulted in sellout audiences, followed by more success with Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and Mary Poppins. Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella and The SpongeBob Musical have continued the success.

River Parish Community Theatre cultivates an appreciation of the performing arts, educates through experience, and fosters a reciprocal commitment to the community to ensure longevity of arts in the area.

​To pursue this mission, RPCT offers opportunities for people of all ages to participate in and enjoy every facet of performing arts programs, from onstage to backstage to operations. RPCT strongly believes that our support of the community is equally important to the community’s support of us.
