River Parish Community Theatre recently awarded $500 grants to three area high schools who had spring musicals cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Donations were made to the Riverside Academy Ovations, the St. Charles Catholic Stagehands, and the Lutcher High School Players. Each of the schools had cast and begun rehearsals for their annual shows when the virus halted progress and ultimately forced the cancellations.
RPCT board president Sean Roussel said, “Our theater family has members from each of these drama organizations, and we consider the whole programs themselves part of the theater community. Their shows were taken away from them so we wanted to show our support and lessen the financial impact.”
In addition, each of the schools will be invited to participate in RPCT’s “A Taste of Broadway”, a dinner and entertainment event scheduled for late summer, conditions permitting. Roussel continued, “They deserve a chance to perform for our community, and we intend to give them that opportunity if they choose to participate.”

River Parish Community Theatre showed their support and appreciation for local healthcare workers this weekend, delivering hot coffee and muffins to the staffs at Ochsner Medical Complex - River Parishes in LaPlace and St. James Parish Hospital in Lutcher.
“The healthcare workers have been dynamic and courageous during this crisis. Bringing them a little cheer and a smile was obviously appreciated. Now is a perfect time to show how much we appreciate them and how much we are a part of this community. There’s more to come this week,” said RPCT board president Sean Roussel.
